Local police had a busy weekend. They made 39 arrests. Sgt. Edwin Jacks and Patrolman Leon Hurst made 11 arrests, six for violation of the prohibition law. Police Chief Victor Dyson said the officers “did a good job over the weekend.”
Twenty-one of the 39 arrests were for traffic violations. Motorcylcle Patrolman Buddy Campbell made 11 arrests for traffic violations. “He covers the whole city and does a good job of it. It is easier for him to conceal himself with the motorcycle,” said Chief Dyson.
The breakdown on the arrests is as follows, eight for public drunkenness, seven for speeding, six for violation of the prohibition law. Three each for running a red light, having an improper muffler and driving while intoxicated, two for reckless driving. One each for running a stop sign, improper parking, illegal possession of alcoholic beverages, drunk and disorderly, driving without a license, assault and battery and contempt of court.
Two person were injured in separate automobile accidents in Talladega. Mrs. Margaret McClellan and Mrs. Louise Roberts were reported in good condition at Citizen’s Hospital.
Local police reported that a drink box at L. N. Payne Gulf Distributors was broken open Saturday night. Chief Dyson appealed to motorists to drive carefully on the holiday. “As for the police department, we will continue our work on the traffic violations until people begin to drive more carefully,” said Chief Dyson.
